Rocky Mountain News Final Edition

It was a newspaper committed to great storytelling. For almost 150 years, and now with this financially difficult moment in time, the Rocky Mountain News publishes it’s final edition today. The presses stopped on February 27, 2009.

USF1: Formula 1 with Danica Patrick?

Peter Windsor said that his USF1 group needs to remind themselves that they’re in the ‘entertainment’ business.
*cough*
I beg to differ. Formula 1 is not in the entertainment business. It’s a competition business, pure and simple.
Peter already knows this, but the interview on SPEED TV colored the topic very differently.

Social media breakdown at Ryanair.

Somewhere in the blogosphere, in a galaxy far, far away, lunatic bloggers are huddled together in meager numbers, submissively pounding away at their computers. Their frustration over a blogger-comrade’s treatment by Ryanair staff has lit a fire. A small fire. Nothing that would ever fuel that fire, so long as their bullying Ryanair staff can [...]

Tropicana reverts to old packaging.

It’s gotta be tough to be at Arnell this year. First, their work for Pepsi-Cola was much maligned by ad bloggers. Now, their work gets rejected by the shopper.
The agency went about rebranding Tropicana orange juice (which is also a Pepsi brand) by ditching the old straw-into-the-fresh-orange and replaced it with a generic type and [...]

Digital Marketing.

It’s happening more and more lately. I get bombarded by internet marketing experts, social media gurus and search engine optimizers trying to get me to use their marketing services. They run through their pitch and they haphazardly reference what we know as consumable digital media. Not surprisingly, they all agree that marketing with traditional media [...]

The beard trimming industry got rocked.

I supposed I’ve seen more than one fucked up goatee in my day. I also suppose that the  entire beard trimming industry, while they toiled away trying to make a more sophisticated, more precise trimmer, was nothing more than a huge waste of their time.
Along comes the Goatee Saver; a plastic template for your face. [...]

The greatest marketing plan ever.

There is absolutely no better marketing plan than honesty. Especially if you’re doing any internet marketing. If you’re afraid of the truth, then don’t put a budget behind your ambitions.
There are other options, should you not want to play the honesty card… You could hire a snake oil salesman who really knows his Search Engine [...]

Post-Valentine’s Day Dentistry.

If you’re a dentist, do you do better business after Valentine’s Day?
Are you reminding your clients and patients that they’ve just consumed a whole box of chocolates and an entire bag of candy hearts? Perhaps they haven’t considered that Valentine’s Day is the sweetest day of the year, and maybe they’ll be thankful for the [...]

Munny: A St. Valentine’s Day Love Story

Directed by George Evelyn: http://vimeo.com/3148762
Kidrobot’s Munny is the world’s greatest* DIY toy. I have several, including the infamous ’suit munny’, shown here in prototype stage:

*Yes, this is my opinion (until it becomes fact… which it will).

A conditional statement on your business.

Inside your computer, it’s running a series of programmed commands where “if” a certain condition happens, “then” a statement is executed. The same situations go on inside every business every day when people make big decisions that ultimately affect how the business runs.
Every business has a problem. The truth is, businesses can operate with wild [...]
